Finland is a land where nature still feels untouched. Large areas of wilderness are protected, offering space for both wildlife and those who seek silence and simplicity.
Across the country runs an extensive network of hiking trails — from marked day routes to long-distance treks through national parks. Along the way, you’ll find lean-tos, campfire sites, and shelters that make exploring easy and safe.
Our waters are among the cleanest in the world. Lakes, rivers, and clear forest ponds invite you to pause, refill your bottle, or simply listen to the sound of flowing water.
Finland is also known for its unique Everyman’s Rights, giving everyone the freedom to roam, pick berries and mushrooms, and experience nature respectfully.
There is space here — real space. Silence, darkness, and pure air. Far from light and noise pollution, the wilderness allows you to breathe and feel part of something timeless.
In our forests live large predators — bears, wolves, lynx, and wolverines — but they keep their distance. Their quiet presence reminds us that this land is still truly wild.
And then there are the seasons. Endless summer nights when the sun never sets, and deep winters when snow and stillness rule the land. Each season transforms the landscape, offering a new reason to step outside.
This is Finland: pure, peaceful, and waiting to be discovered.
Finland offers incredible opportunities for hiking, with vast forests, pristine lakes, and well-maintained trails. Before you set off, there are some important things to know to make your experience safe, enjoyable, and respectful of local customs.
1. Everyman’s Rights (Jokaisennoikeudet) Finland has a unique concept called Everyman’s Rights, which allows people to move freely in nature and camp temporarily almost anywhere. However, this freedom does not extend to private property such as gardens or the yards of cottages. Always respect private spaces and stay on public paths or open nature areas.
2. National Parks and Protected Areas While Everyman’s Rights are broad, national parks and other protected areas are governed by specific laws and regulations. Each area may have its own rules regarding hiking, camping, and other activities. It is the hiker’s responsibility to check these rules before visiting to ensure compliance and preserve the natural environment.
3. Using Hiking Facilities Finland has many outdoor facilities such as lean-tos, campfire sites, and wilderness huts. Everyone has equal rights to use these, so it is not appropriate to “reserve” them for personal use. A good principle to follow is the old Finnish saying: “Sopu sijaa antaa” (“Consideration makes space for everyone”).
Camping at designated areas or wilderness huts is generally allowed for 1–2 nights. If the site is busy, it’s polite to make room for others after the first night. Even if you sleep in your own tent, you are allowed to prepare food and dry your gear inside a wilderness hut.
4. Respect Personal Space Finns value their privacy and personal space. When pitching a tent, avoid setting up too close to another group—there’s usually plenty of space in the wilderness, so you can enjoy some solitude.
5. Guided Hikes Joining a guided hike can enhance your experience. Guides help you discover interesting sights, understand the local nature, and navigate the trails safely. They can also help ensure you follow proper etiquette in shared spaces.
Finland is ready to welcome hikers from around the world. With respect for the rules, consideration for others, and a sense of adventure, your hiking experience here can be truly unforgettable.
Far from the crowds, beyond the paved roads and city lights, lies another side of Finland — a land of silence, untouched forests, vast bogs, and wild predators roaming freely. This is the heart of Wild Nature – Nordic Wilderness: guided hikes and tailor-made adventures that take you deep into places where nature still writes the story.
At Wild Nature, we believe that the wilderness is more than a destination — it’s an experience. It’s the crunch of ancient lichen beneath your boots, the haunting call of a distant bird, and the glow of a campfire in the silence of a remote forest. Our passion is to take you there — safely, slowly, and with respect for nature.
Eastern Finland — Where Wilderness Begins
Some of the most untamed wilderness areas in Finland lie in the far east, along the remote border with Russia. Here, you’ll find landscapes unlike anywhere else: vast open bogs, deep forests, wild rivers, and crystal-clear lakes.
In these borderlands, nature dominates. It’s one of the few regions in Europe where you still have a chance to encounter all of Finland’s large predators — bears, wolves, lynx, and wolverines. We design multi-day expeditions here, combining hiking, wildlife tracking, and authentic wilderness skills.
A typical adventure lasts 3–5 days, and while spotting predators in the wild requires patience and luck, we often find fresh tracks and signs of their presence. Evenings are spent by the campfire, cooking under the open sky, and — if the group wishes — relaxing in a traditional tent sauna deep in the wilderness.
This region remains largely untouched, making it a perfect choice for those seeking silence, solitude, and raw natural beauty.
Other Destinations in the Nordic Wilds
While Eastern Finland is one of our most unique offerings, Wild Nature also guides adventurers through some of the Nordic region’s most spectacular landscapes:
Rondane National Park, Norway — Alpine peaks, deep valleys, and endless trails for those who dream of big mountains and open skies.
Kalottireitti Trail(Finland → Norway → Sweden) — A 180 km cross-border journey through Arctic tundra, wild rivers, and some of Lapland’s most remote wilderness.
Predator Expeditions(Eastern Finland) — Track wildlife, explore untouched forests, and experience one of Europe’s wildest regions.
Each adventure is crafted to combine scenic beauty, authentic experiences, and the opportunity to connect with naturein a way few travelers ever do.
