Into the Wild: Exploring the Untamed Nordic Wilderness with Wild Nature

Far from the crowds, beyond the paved roads and city lights, lies another side of Finland — a land of silence, untouched forests, vast bogs, and wild predators roaming freely. This is the heart of Wild Nature – Nordic Wilderness: guided hikes and tailor-made adventures that take you deep into places where nature still writes the story.

At Wild Nature, we believe that the wilderness is more than a destination — it’s an experience. It’s the crunch of ancient lichen beneath your boots, the haunting call of a distant bird, and the glow of a campfire in the silence of a remote forest. Our passion is to take you there — safely, slowly, and with respect for nature.

Eastern Finland — Where Wilderness Begins

Some of the most untamed wilderness areas in Finland lie in the far east, along the remote border with Russia. Here, you’ll find landscapes unlike anywhere else: vast open bogs, deep forests, wild rivers, and crystal-clear lakes.

In these borderlands, nature dominates. It’s one of the few regions in Europe where you still have a chance to encounter all of Finland’s large predators — bears, wolves, lynx, and wolverines. We design multi-day expeditions here, combining hiking, wildlife tracking, and authentic wilderness skills.

A typical adventure lasts 3–5 days, and while spotting predators in the wild requires patience and luck, we often find fresh tracks and signs of their presence. Evenings are spent by the campfire, cooking under the open sky, and — if the group wishes — relaxing in a traditional tent sauna deep in the wilderness.

This region remains largely untouched, making it a perfect choice for those seeking silence, solitude, and raw natural beauty.

Other Destinations in the Nordic Wilds

While Eastern Finland is one of our most unique offerings, Wild Nature also guides adventurers through some of the Nordic region’s most spectacular landscapes:

  • Rondane National Park, Norway — Alpine peaks, deep valleys, and endless trails for those who dream of big mountains and open skies.
  • Kalottireitti Trail (Finland → Norway → Sweden) — A 180 km cross-border journey through Arctic tundra, wild rivers, and some of Lapland’s most remote wilderness.
  • Predator Expeditions (Eastern Finland) — Track wildlife, explore untouched forests, and experience one of Europe’s wildest regions.

Each adventure is crafted to combine scenic beautyauthentic experiences, and the opportunity to connect with naturein a way few travelers ever do.

Our Way of Exploring

Wild Nature is built on three core principles:

  • Small groups — to keep the experience personal and authentic
  • Safety first — your guide, Mika Mannonen, has led thousands of hikers through the Nordic wilderness since 2017
  • Respect for nature — we leave no trace and take time to listen, observe, and be part of the landscape rather than rushing through it

Every trek, whether it’s a guided hike or a tailor-made private expedition, is designed to create space for presence — to slow down, breathe, and reconnect with the natural world.
