Experience Norway’s Rugged Gem!
Rondane National Park is located in Southern Norway, surrounded by several other national parks and vast wilderness areas. Established in 1962, it is one of the largest national parks in Norway by area. The park is home to majestic mountains, deep valleys, winding rivers, and beautiful lakes — including Rondvatnet, the highest-altitude lake in Norway.
Rondane is easy to reach by public transport. The nearest airport is Oslo Gardermoen, with excellent train connections to Otta, the gateway to the park. Direct trains are also available from Stockholm, making travel from Sweden smooth and convenient. In addition, several bus routes connect Rondane with major Norwegian cities.
Your guide on this hike is Mika Mannonen, an experienced wilderness and hiking guide. This trek is a unique opportunity to explore the dramatic landscapes of Central Norway while enjoying the fresh, pure northern air. The timing — late July to early August — has been carefully chosen: the days are long with extended daylight, rainfall is typically lower, and there are fewer hikers on the trails compared to mid-summer.
Each day is thoughtfully planned to allow time for both enjoying the peace of nature and recovering along the way. The route is mostly easy to moderate, but there are sections with steeper climbs and a few water crossings. We maintain flexibility in the terrain and adapt the route based on conditions and the needs of the group. Weather permitting, we will summit peaks rising above 2,000 meters, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding wilderness. No technical climbing skills are required.
We recommend using hiking gear that you are already familiar with, as it makes the trek both more comfortable and safer. If you are missing any essential equipment, your guide will be happy to assist you with rental options or purchase recommendations.
Before the trip, you will also gain access to a private WhatsApp group exclusively for registered participants. There, you’ll receive tips and support for choosing the right gear and food for the hike.
We encourage lightweight packing to make your experience more enjoyable. Before the adventure begins, we will go through the itinerary and all details of the hike together to ensure you’re fully prepared.

RONDANE
Landscapes & Nature
Rondane is renowned for its diverse landscapes and rich natural beauty. The highest peaks, such as Rondeslottet (2,178 m) and Storronden (2,138 m), offer breathtaking panoramic views. The park features crystal-clear lakes, deep valleys, forests, and open tundra landscapes.
Rondane is also home to rare wildlife, including one of Europe’s last remaining wild reindeer herds, as well as bird species such as the long-tailed skua and the little stint. Popular activities in the park include hiking, fishing, and birdwatching. Well-marked trails make it easy to enjoy both short day hikes and longer trekking adventures.
Hiking in the Area
Rondane offers a wide variety of hiking trails suitable for all experience levels. The most popular route is the Rondane Circuit, an approximately 80 km trail that loops around the national park. On this trip, we aim to follow this iconic route, experiencing some of the park’s most stunning landscapes along the way.
Rondane provides the perfect setting for both beginners and experienced hikers, combining breathtaking scenery with well-marked trails and unforgettable wilderness experiences.
