15.-23.8.2026 Nordkalott Trail Guided Trek, Kilpisjärvi – Abisko | Finland • Norway • Sweden

The Kalottireitti (Nordkalott) Trail is a breathtaking hiking route crossing three countries — Finland, Sweden, and Norway — through the wild beauty of the Arctic north. Stretching over 800 km in total, the trail offers hikers unforgettable moments immersed in untouched nature.

On this trek, we will cover approximately 180 km from Kilpisjärvi to Abisko. Along the way, we’ll explore the diverse landscapes of the Arctic region and pass through several stunning national parks.

Due to its length and remoteness, this is our most demanding group trek.

Your guide on this trek is Mika Mannonen, an experienced wilderness and hiking instructor. This is a unique opportunity to hike through the rugged northern landscapes and enjoy the fresh Arctic air.

The trek takes place in mid-August, carefully chosen for its long daylight hourslower rainfall, and fewer hikers compared to mid-summer. The daily schedule is designed to allow time to enjoy the wilderness and recover along the way.

The route follows marked trails and is mostly moderate, but there are also challenging sections and river crossings. Daily distances are long, averaging about 25 km (8–10 hours of hiking per day).

Gear & Preparation

We recommend using hiking gear you are already familiar with, as this makes the trek more comfortable and safer.

If you are missing essential equipment, your guide will gladly assist with rental or purchase recommendations. Registered participants will also gain access to a private WhatsApp group, where you’ll receive support in choosing the right gear and food.

We encourage lightweight packing to make your experience more enjoyable. Before the trek, we will review the itinerary, logistics, and gear requirements together in detail.

Landscapes & Nature

A significant part of the trek takes us through the Øvre Dividal National Park. The scenery varies from rugged mountains to vast lakes, lush pine and birch forests, and open tundra.

The area’s unique landforms tell the story of the Ice Age, where melting glaciers shaped the landscape over thousands of years.

This diverse ecosystem is home to rich alpine vegetationrare lichens and fungi, and unique insect species. Wolverinesand other large predators inhabit the area, and it serves as an important breeding ground for the endangered Arctic fox.

Hiking in the Area

Hiking here focuses on steady progress and enjoying the breathtaking views. We follow well-marked trails throughout the entire trek and do not plan our own off-trail routes.

Typical hiking days start early in the morning and finish in the early evening, ending with setting up camp and preparing dinner.

Trek Itinerary

Before the trek, we will arrange a one-hour online info session in June or July 2026 (exact date to be confirmed). Registered participants will also be invited to a private WhatsApp group, where the guide will be available to answer questions and coordinate carpooling options.
